The fistic fireworks transpire at the Delray Beach Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Florida. BKFC 38 has quite the marquee topper with this electric featherweight clash. This bout is between former BKFC bantamweight world champion Dat Nguyen and two-time Bellator featherweight world champion Daniel Straus.
BKFC 38
“South Florida has long been a hotbed for some of BKFC’s most electrifying events and our biggest crowds. Saint Patrick’s Day headlined by Dat Nguyen versus Daniel Straus will absolutely meet that standard,” stated David Feldman, President of BKFC. “Dat’s fights in BKFC have been among our most exciting and he wanted to fight the best opposition in his return and a battle against Daniel Straus is as tough a fight as we could make.”
Nguyen has an overall bare-knuckle boxing record of 3-1 and won the BKFC bantamweight world title versus Johnny Bedford in a classic at the first KnuckleMania event on February 5th, 2021. The ultra game Nguyen also jumped up two weight divisions to vie for more gold. He battled current BKFC double champ Luis Palomino at BKFC 22 on November 12th, 2021, and lost a competitive decision at 155 pounds. Nguyen also holds wins against Abdiel Velazquez and current number two-ranked bantamweight Travis Thompson under the BKFC banner.
He also is an experienced gloved boxer in his own right. Nguyen has an overall Queensberry rules record of 20-3. Also, he is a former WBA-NABA title challenger.
Dat Nguyen vs Daniel Straus
Following one of the more tenured runs in Bellator history, Straus indicated a shift in combat sports focus. He did this by signing a deal with BKFC recently. He put together an overall MMA record of twenty-six wins and ten losses. A resume including notable wins against Patricio Pitbull, Henry Corrales, Marlon Sandro, and Pat Curran. Straus was a fixture in Bellator starting with his debut at Bellator 23 over twelve years ago. The promotional run lasted all the way up until Bellator 226 in September 2019.
This first quarter of 2023 fight against Nguyen will be his debut under the BKFC banner.
The BKFC featherweight world title is a crown that presently does not find itself situated on anyone’s head. With this high-profile clash between Nguyen and Straus considering their cache in combat, the winner of this fight could potentially position themselves to become BKFC’s inaugural champ at 145 pounds.
