Deiveson Figueiredo explains why he hired Urijah Faber as his new manager
UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo explained why he hired UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber as his new manager.
The flyweight champ was managed by Wallid Ismail for years, but he recently decided to make a change and hire Faber as his manager. When the news came out recently that Figueiredo had made the switch, it came as a surprise because he had been with Ismail for years. But the UFC flyweight champion decided that he needed to make a change in his management team and he did just that.
Speaking to AG Fight in an interview, “The God of War” explained why he made the switch he did.
“After I decided to go solo, I took a long time to choose which guy to work with me. So I decided to choose Urijah, because I’ve camped at the gym (Team Alpha Male), he already knew him and he’s a great person, he treated me very well. A guy that inside the UFC has free access and I saw that he’s the guy to fight, give me numbers, which is what I need. I fight for money, to show up. I want to give the best for my family and Urijah is this guy who is going to fight in there for me,” Figueiredo said.
According to Figueiredo, one of the reasons he made the switch is because of the recent creation of the interim UFC flyweight belt between Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara-France at UFC 277. The champ says that one of the reasons the interim belt was created was because a document showing his current injury was not shown to the UFC brass by his former agent. That, plus he wants more money.
“They wanted me to fight and the document showing my injury was not presented. So they thought I wasn’t accepting it and there’s also the issue of numbers, because of what I was demanding, I want them to improve my bag because it’s not right. That’s why I changed entrepreneurs to improve these numbers. The UFC knows I’m prepared to defend what’s mine,” Figueiredo said, noting that he hopes to return to the Octagon in December of this year or January early next year.
