Deiveson Figueiredo on Cody Garbrandt ahead of UFC 300 – ““We see he’s mentally fragile”
Former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo will meet former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt as part of the epic April 13 fight card that is UFC 300.
Ahead of the matchup, the former 125-pound kingpin detailed the mental state of his opponent on MMA Fighting’s Trocação Franca podcast.
“We see he’s mentally fragile,” Figueiredo said. “He doesn’t have a good head. We see he hasn’t come back after having a few losses, right?”
“No Love” Garbrandt has just three wins in his last eight outings inside the octagon. After defeating arguably one of the best ever at 135-pounds in Dominick Cruz, Garbrandt then lost the title he captured without ever successfully defending the strap.
After that masterful performance in December 2016, Garbrandt dropped the title to former teammate T.J. Dillashaw and was then knocked out again in the rematch less than a year later. Garbrandt then went out to be knocked out by the hands of Pedro Munhoz before finally picking up a win over Raphael Assuncao.
Following that lone victory, Garbrandt then dropped two fights wth losses to Rob Font and Kai Kara-France.
It wasn’t until 2023 that the former bantamweight champ picked up consecutive wins when he defeated Trevin Jones and Brian Kelleher.
“Every athlete fears getting touched,” Figueiredo said. “Many fighters like the in-fight but crumble when a hand lands. You have to be a badass, you need a strong mind to come back again. I think I’ll affect his mind by touching him, and he’s going to respect me more.”
“I really want the knockout in this fight,” Figueiredo said. “This fight could lead me to a title, so I want to impress. It’s going to be an incredible fight. Cody moves a lot and gives his all in the first round, and I have that same aggressive style. It’s going to be an intense fight.”
