Deiveson Figueiredo submits Cody Garbrandt to open up UFC 300 fight card

A pair of former UFC champions will open up the historic UFC 300 fight card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday.  Former UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo meets former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at 135-pounds on April 13.

Going into UFC 300, Figuriredo was riding high off of a fantastic bantamweight debut against Rob Font. He is coming up from flyweight, where he was twice the king, capturing the belt in bouts with Joseph Benavidez and Brandon Moreno. He looked to make his way to the top of the heap at bantamweight but will add a big name to his resume first.

Cody Garbrandt hasn’t had the same success Figueiredo has had. After he captured the belt from Dominick Cruz in 2016, “No Love” went on a miserable 1-5 run with losses to TJ Dillashaw, Rob Font and a failed one fight stint at flyweight against Kai Kara-France.

Garbrandt has turned it around in his last two outings. He has defeated Trevin Jones via decision and had a spectacular first round knockout of Brian Kelleher in his last fight.

These top-tier bantamweight fighters stood toe-to-toe and traded but it the former flyweight stud was just too much for “No Love” as he dominated Garbrandt on the ground and forced a submission in the second frame.
