Demetrious Johnson on Aljamain Sterling – “I would eat his ass up for breakfast in the clinch game”
Demetrious Johnson will forever be etched in mixed martial arts history as one of the greatest fighters to ever compete in the sport. The former UFC flyweight champion and current ONE Championship flyweight champ is currently contemplating his next move, whether it be a return to competition or retirement from the sport.
In speaking today on The MMA Hour, “Mighty Mouse” Johnson entertained a hypothetical bout with current UFC bantamweight champions Aljamain Sterling.
“Let’s play spar,” Johson said. “Come spar, I would love to grapple you, I would love to just move and see how you do your thing.”
Sterling will be defending his title this weekend against challenger Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. While a potential bout with Johnson is likely to never happen as the two men are not only in different promotions, but also because “Funkmaster” Sterling has stated he will likely move up to featherweight in his next outing.
Johnson continued to explore the matchup’s potential.
“I feel his weakness is he has no clinch game,” the ONE flyweight champ said. “I would eat his ass up for breakfast in the clinch game. I feel like rhythm wise, I move way better than he does on the feet.”
“I just feel like I’d eat him alive in the clinch.”
