Demetrious Johnson releases statement after KO loss to Adriano Moraes: ‘If you are in this game long enough, it is bound to happen one day’

Demetrious Johnson has released a statement after his KO loss on Wednesday night to Adriano Moraes for ONE Championship’s flyweight title.

Johnson earned the title shot after winning the flyweight grand prix as “Mighty Mouse” looked to further cement his legacy with a belt in another major origination. Unfortunately, early on, Johnson was having trouble closing the distance on the much taller fighter in Moraes.

In the second round, as Johnson tried to close the distance Moraes landed a punch that dropped the former UFC champion. The ONE flyweight champ then followed up with some ground and pound and as Johnson tried to get up, Moraes landed a flush knee that put Johnson out cold.

After the loss, Mighty Mouse took to social media to release a statement on the fight.

“all good everyone back in the hotel. watch the fight. shitty day in the office. congratz to @adrianomkoraes we will be back,” Johnson wrote.

Demetrious Johnson also went on Instagram stories to provide some further detail as to what went wrong in the fight for him.

“Alright guys, we are back in the hotel. First off, I want to thank everybody for your guy’s support and my teammates, Tony and James. Shitty day in the office. I watched the fight three times,” Johnson said. “I felt it was going good, just trying to cross that distance. We know that would be the biggest obstacle course facing Adriano Moraes for how big he is. If you are in this game long enough, it is bound to happen one day. I’m healthy, I feel good.”

With the loss, Demetrious Johnson is 30-4-1 and is now 3-1 in ONE Championship. Before the loss to Moraes, Johnson scored decision wins over Danny Kingad, Tatsumitsu Wada, and a submission win Yuya Wakamatsu in the flyweight grand prix.
