Demian Maia

Demian Maia: “I want to do one more fight in the UFC”

UFC vet Demian Maia spoke to Luke Thomas of Morning Kombat yesterday, where he told Thomas that he is not quite done with the sport.

In the interview, Maia says “I’m not officially retired.”

“I want to do one more fight in the UFC, but I don’t want to fight any other event because, you know, UFC is my house. That’s been my house for the last 15 years. About 15 years, yeah, so you know, if I get another chance I will do one more fight there.”

Maia continues to tell Thomas, “I’m still training some MMA, I’m still doing some like, you know, boxing and Thai boxing with takedowns, these kinds of things.”

“I feel pretty healthy, I feel pretty well in terms of conditioning.”

Maia last fought in 2021 against Belal Muhammad at UFC 263. The bout marked his final bout under contract with the UFC, however, if given the opportunity to have one more fight with the promotion Maia confirms that he would take it.

Watch the interview below:

Maia joined the promotion back in 2007 and has competed at the top of the sport ever since. Under the UFC banner, Maia not only fought for the welterweight title twice, but he holds notable victories over the likes of Nate Quarry, Chael Sonnen, Ben Askren, and Jorge Masvidal.

At 44 years of age, Maia has entertained combat sports fans for over 20 years, and we here at MyMMANews hope he gets the proper ‘goodbye’ that he is looking for.

If Maia is to come back for one more bout, who would you like to see him matched up with?
