Diego Braga killed while looking for his stolen motorcycle

Diego Braga, a mixed martial arts veteran of 32 professional fights, was killed by organized crime in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday.

The 44-year-old Braga, father to 2023 PFL featherweight finalist Gabriel Braga, revealed on his social media that he had his motorcycle stolen from his garage late Sunday night.

Braga then attempted to locate his property and was killed after he was “mistaken by members of criminal organization Comando Vermelho as a member of a rival militia,” according to a report by MMA Fighting.

Police arrested 18-year-old man Tauã da Silva on Tuesday morning according to Brazilian news outlet G1.

Braga was the leader of Tropa Thai team in Rio de Janeiro and a martial arts instructor for underprivileged children. His pro MMA career dates back to 2003.

He coached former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for several of his final UFC bouts and also was featured on a fight card with his son Gabriel at Future MMA 7 in 2019 in what would ultimately be his retirement bout.
