Dominick Cruz says beef with Urijah Faber is squashed: “He’s a good dude”
Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz said that his beef with Urijah Faber is squashed, saying Faber is “a good dude.”
Cruz and Faber had one of the best rivalries of the lower-weight classes over the last decade-plus. The two first met in the WEC, with Faber handing Cruz his first career loss by submission. They then fought twice in the UFC, with Cruz winning both fights by decision, and they also coached TUF 15 against each other. There’s been no love lost between these two rivalries over the years, but as far as Cruz is concerned, the beef is now squashed for good.
Speaking to James Lynch, Cruz said that he and Faber are cool and that he respects him.
“Yeah, you can see it. We shook hands on Fox Sports years back. That was real. After the number of rounds we’ve fought — we’ve fought three times — everything’s said. Things are done. I never really hate anybody that I fight. Do we have differences of opinion and if you come at me I’m going to come at you back? (Yeah) but it doesn’t mean I hate you,” Cruz said.
“But yeah, me and Faber are good. He’s a good dude. He’s just trying to help mixed martial arts at all times. Yeah he can be a little goofy at times, but I told him that to his face, he knows it. He probably said the same about me, that’s the funny part of our — I’m not sure if you’d call it a relationship or not.”
Cruz is coming off of a split decision win over Casey Kenney at UFC 259 and is expected to fight again sometime later this year against another top contender at 135lbs. As for Faber, he hasn’t fought since a knockout loss to Petr Yan at UFC 245 in December 2019.
