Dominick Cruz says he has “nothing but faith” in Cody Garbrandt bouncing back from UFC 269 loss
Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz says he has “nothing but faith” in Cody Garbrandt bouncing back from his latest UFC 269 loss.
Cruz and Garbrandt met back at UFC 207 in December 2016. At the time, Cruz was the UFC bantamweight champion, but Garbrandt took his title that night with a breakthrough unanimous decision win. Five years later and these two just fought on the same card at UFC 269, albeit against other opponents. Cruz defeated Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision on the prelims, while on the main card we saw Garbrandt get knocked out cold by Kai Kara-France. But as far as Cruz goes, he still has faith in Garbrandt to bounce back in his MMA career despite suffering this brutal loss in his flyweight debut.
Speaking to the media following UFC 269, Cruz sent some kind words to Garbrandt, encouraging his former rival to stay the course and keep fighting the good fight. As far as Cruz goes, Garbrandt still needs more time to get acclimated to 125lbs. Once he gets used to it, Cruz has faith that he can bounce back.
“I don’t know why other people haven’t been successful. I haven’t been part of their camps but I know that Cody is a champion, obviously, in his heart and mind. I think he will get back on track. He is still very young. Cutting down to 125 is, I don’t even know how that’s possible for him, but he made it work and he said it was easy so I think he’ll be fine. Just give the guy some time and let him find his bearings with his team or whatever he needs to find. I got nothing but faith in the guy,” Cruz said (via SportsKeeda).
Do you agree with Dominick Cruz that Cody Garbrandt has what it takes to bounce back in the UFC?
