Donald Cerrone gives injury update following UFC 238
After the fight came to an ending that left many fans feeling empty, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone provided fans with an encouraging update from his UFC 238 fight against Tony Ferguson. In what was a highly anticipated lightweight contender fight, Ferguson defeated Cerrone by a TKO doctor stoppage, after Cerrone suffered an injury and couldn’t continue.
It took a while for Tony Ferguson to come out firing in the fight against Cerrone but all but one judge had him up in both rounds before the fight was stopped. Immediately following the fight it was believed that Cerrone had suffered a broken orbital during the fight, and when he blew his nose before the third round, his eye was swollen shut and the cageside doctor determined he couldn’t continue.
Just a few days following the fight, Cerrone provided an encouraging health update in which could see him return sooner than later.

“I’m in Good Health. Thanks for all the message and concerns. Only air was in my eye. No broken bones nor cracked or broken orbital. Sitting and waiting for the Rematch or next fight.”-Cowboy Cerrone via Instagram.
During the UFC 238 broadcast, Joe Rogan said that UFC President Dana White told him they were looking to book a rematch during Ferguson and Cerrone, but there has been no further update into a potential booking of that fight. Dana White did call out those who felt the fight shouldn’t have ended in a TKO victory for Ferguson, but didn’t mention if a rematch would be booked.
Before losing the fight to Ferguson, Cerrone was on a three-fight win streak with wins over Mike Perry, Alex Hernandez, and Al Iaquinta, which landed him in title contender territory for the UFC’s lightweight title.
With Ferguson’s win over Cerrone, he is now on a 12-fight winning streak and finds himself right in the mix for the next title shot after the UFC 242 lightweight title fight between champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.
Now that Donald Cerrone has made it known that he didn’t suffer a broken orbital, time will tell as to when the UFC will book his next fight.
