Drakkar Klose vs Carlos Diego Ferreira added to UFC 277

UFC 277 is quickly coming together, as they continue to add exciting match ups to the card.

This event is to go down on July 30, 2022, at a to-be-determined venue.

One of those match ups that’s recently been signed comes in the lightweight division between Drakkar Klose and Carlos Diego Ferreira.

Drakkar Klose came to the UFC with a record of 6-0-1 back in 2017 and assumed a promotional record of 5-1 throughout his first six bouts, defeating the likes of Devin Powell (UD), Marc Diakiese (SD), Lando Vannata (UD), Bobby Green (UD), and Christos Giagos (UD).

The only defeat in that time came to David Teymur, who’s a 39-1 professional kickboxing champion.

But, if there’s one critique fans could’ve had about Klose, it’s that he isn’t much of a finisher.

Well, that all changed this spring, as he returned to TKO Brandon Jenkins early on in round two after a dominant round one. Klose improved his record to 12-2-1 with this victory.

He was coming off a 25-month layoff going into that fight with Jenkins, though he was expected to face Jeremy Stephens in April of 2021.

Stephens shoved Klose at the weigh-ins, injuring his neck, and he was forced to the sidelines for another year.

Nonetheless, he’s back and ready to make some waves in the UFC’s lightweight division come July.

Carlos Diego Ferreira on the other hand came to the UFC back in 2014 with a record of 9-0, and would win his first two octagon bouts against The Ultimate Fighter 16 winner Colton Smith (rear naked choke) and The Ultimate Fighter 13 finalist Ramsey Nijem (TKO).

The Brazilian would then run into Beneil Dariush (UD) and Dustin Poirier (KO), both of which defeated him, before he went on a six-fight win streak, defeating Olivier Aubin-Mercier (UD), Jared Gordon (TKO), Kyle Nelson (TKO), Rustam Khabilov (UD), Mairbek Taisumov (UD), and former champion Anthony Pettis (rear naked choke) in that time.

This put Ferreira in a great spot, and improved his record to 17-2 with that win over Pettis, but he’s been defeated in his last three outings against Beneil Dariush (SD) in their rematch, Gregor Gillespie (TKO), and Mateusz Gamrot (TKO).

Klose probably needs to keep this fight on the feet in order to secure a victory, given Ferreira is a BJJ world champion, but he’ll have to be mindful in the striking department as well.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
