Drew Dober, Renato Moicano

Drew Dober vs Renato Moicano booked for UFC Fight Night 235

We have a very intriguing lightweight scrap coming to us early next year between dangerous knockout artist Drew Dober and submission specialist Renato Moicano.

This bout is to go down on February 3, 2024, at UFC Fight Night 235, live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

It’s been a while since we saw Moicano fight, 15 months by time this fight happens. Considering how much momentum he had following his most recent appearance where he submitted Brad Riddell, it’s exciting to see he’ll be back soon.

Renato Moicano had a successful run down at 145 lbs, going 5-1 through his first six promotional bouts with victories over Zuba Tukhugov, Jeremy Stephens, Calvin Kattar, and Cub Swanson. He’d then drop back-to-back defeats to former two-time featherweight champion Jose Aldo and two-time title challenger Chan Sung Jung before moving up to 155 lbs.

Since then, Moicano has gone 4-2, all four wins coming via rear naked choke submission, with defeats coming to Rafael Fiziev and former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

Following a 6-5 (1 NC) run through his first 12 promotional bouts, Drew Dober has really come into his own as of late, going 7-3 since then with knockout victories in each of those wins, the most impressive of which coming over Terrance McKinney, Rafael Alves, and Bobby Green respectively.

Dober most recently knocked out former WSOF champion Rick Glenn, which moved him up to the title of most knockouts in UFC lightweight history with nine.

Of Dober’s 12 defeats, four come via submission, all four of them coming inside the octagon, while of Moicano’s five defeats, three come via knockout, also of which all three came in the UFC.

Each of these men have a kryptonite of what the other is good at, and that makes for a very exciting encounter to look forward to come February.

Who walks away from this lightweight bout going down at UFC FN 235 the victor?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
