Dustin Poirier vs Joe Duffy breaks UFC Fight Pass viewing record
“It broke the record,” UFC President Dana said at the post-fight press conference. “It’s the most-watched fight we’ve ever had on Fight Pass.”
The fight the UFC boss was talking about was the epic UFC 195 preliminary headlining bout which was available for stream only on UFC Fight Pass, the organization’s digital subscription service.
Dustin Poirier and Joe Duffy were set to compete in the main event in Dublin, Ireland in October at UFC Fight Night 76 on Fight Pass, but the bout was canceled last minute when Duffy failed concussion screening. In order to honor Fight Pass subscribers and give Ireland a chance to catch the bout live, the second booking of the bout was added to the Fight Pass portion of the UFC 195 preliminary card.
It is uncertain exactly how many people actually streamed last night’s fight between the two, but the fight lived up to the expectation, proving that prestigious battles can be put forth on Fight Pass and people will pay to watch.
Next month, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will fighter Michael Bisping in the headlining fight of a UFC card held in London England. That fight card will be streamed exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
