Ed Herman returns to the Octagon against Danilo Marques
Veteran UFC light heavyweight Ed Herman is set to return to the Octagon when he takes on Danilo Marques at a UFC Fight Card later this year.
Combate’s Evy Rodrigues broke the news that Herman vs. Marques is in the works for a UFC Fight Night card on June 26. That event is also set to feature another light heavyweight bout between Ovince Saint Preux and Maxim Grishin. Herman vs. Marques will likely slide in somewhere on the main card given they are light heavyweights with finishing abilities both on the feet and on the ground. It’s a sensible matchup for both men at this particular time.
Herman (26-14, 1 NC) is one of the longest-tenured fighters still on the UFC roster. The 40-year-old American first appeared as a contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter” season three, where it made it to the finals before losing to Kendall Grove. For the last 15 years, Herman has been a staple of the UFC light heavyweight and middleweight divisions, reaching up a 13-11, 1 NC record through 25 UFC contests. Despite being 40 years old, Herman is still fighting at a very high level, having won his last three fights in a row. His submission win over Mike Rodriguez in his last outing was a controversial victory, but the fact he was able to come back and win that fight was incredible.
Marques (11-2) is also coming off of a submission win over Rodriguez, so this is the perfect matchup. The 35-year-old Marques is 2-0 in the UFC since joining the promotion in 2020 and he has a decision win over Khadis Ibragimov, a fighter Herman also has also beaten. It’s a fight between two light heavyweights who are both coming off of two straight wins over the same fighters, and by the exact same methods as well, which could be a UFC first.
