Ed Ruth looks to stun Yaroslav Amosov at Bellator 239

This Friday, Ed Ruth returns to Thackerville, Oklahoma ahead of Bellator 239 looking to extend his two fight win streak. Ruth has an impressive 8-1 start in his Bellator career. His lone loss coming to Neiman Gracie in the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix Semifinals. This weekend, Ruth faces Yaroslav Amosov in hopes on getting closer to a title fight in the division.

Before his fight, Ruth talked with us about his time with Bellator, specifically how the lack of rankings exist.

“I feel like when people see the rankings, they pay too much attention to that,” Ruth stated.

“You are already setting yourself up, psychologically, to fight a more scared match,” he continued.

Ahead of his fight, Ruth talked about his game plan against a seasoned opponent in Amosov. As he has said in the past, Ruth does not focus too heavily on watching film. Ruth likes to get a feel for the fighter and then go work on his own game.

“I feel that I’m a fighter who prepares, and I know how to prepare,” he said.

“I don’t focus my camp on trying to nullify what he does. If anything, I just watch the fight just to know what he does,” Ruth finished.

Conversely, Amasov has a 22-0 record heading in to Friday’s fight. He is also riding a three-fight win streak in Bellator defeating Gerald Harris, Erick Silva and David Rickels. Amasov appears to not know what defeat inside the cage is yet. So Ruth and I discussed Amasov’s background as well.

“It’s just 22 instances where he won,” Ruth stated.

“And now he’s come across me because those were 22 guys that weren’t me. For me it’s like you beat up 22 guys and I have no idea who they are,” he finished.

But the buck has to stop here for one of these two fighters. Ed Ruth finished talking with us and how he feels this fight will go.

“I notice that he bounces around on his feet  around a bit,” Ruth declared.

“His striking is there, but its not fully there … he has some good high kicks. I think he likes to pressure and find his shots whenever he can. He likes to get his guy to the fence and see if he can wear him out that way. But I just don’t see any areas where he can capitalize on me,” Ruth finished.

Bellator 239 headlines this Friday at the WinStar Casino in Thackerville, Okla. Catch the main card starting at 9 p.m. EST on Paramount Network.
