Eddie Alvarez officially signs with ONE Championship

Former UFC and Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez is heading to ONE Championship. In what can be described as this biggest free agent signing in ONE FC history, “The Underground King”, will head to the promotion following a four-year run in the UFC.

Chatri Sityodtong, the CEO of ONE FC announced the signing of Alvarez by releasing this video that the former UFC champion made himself. In the video, Alvarez says everyone involved with the deal is very happy with the terms and that the signing was a very easy process.

Alvarez leaves the UFC with a 4-3-1 record with his most recent fight ending in a loss to Dustin Poirier which was a rematch after their first fight ended in a no-contest back in 2017. In his career, Alvarez has a career record of 29-6-1 and has been a champion in every promotion he was fought in. During his announcement video, Alvarez said he left a shelf in his trophy case empty, letting everyone know he’s focused on becoming the ONE FC champion.

Alvarez achieved UFC gold when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos in 2016 and was part of the UFC’s first ever fight card to take place at Madison Square Garden, where he would ultimately go on to lose the belt to Conor McGregor at UFC 205.

ESPN MMA Insider Ariel Helwani tweeted after the signing that he believes 2019 will be a big year for ONE FC, which could only mean there are big plans for Alvarez’s tenure with the promotion.

Throughout his career, Alvarez has been a champion at every promotion he has fought in and will look to add to his resume that includes UFC and Bellator championships. There was no word on when Alvarez would make his debut for ONE but in the tweet announcing Alvarez’s signing, Chatri Sityodtong included to stay tuned for more big news.
