Eddie Hern says Haney vs. Kambosos Jr is close to being booked
George Kambosos Jr. is set to return in June. However, his opponent is still up in the air.
Originally slated for the June 4th card was Kambosos Jr. vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko. However, with the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Lomachenko may not be able to make it to the fight.
Now, according to Matchroom founder and boss Eddie Hern, Devin Haney is likely to face Kombosos Jr. at the June 4th event.
Hern told DAZN Boxing “I believe this fight is going to get to closed.”
“I think that obviously the Ukraine situation with Lomachenko rules him out of the mix as well” Hern tells DAZN boxing.
He continues, “talks have been very positive between DAZN and Lou DiBella. I just feel that we can close this fight and it’s a must-make.”
Kambosos Jr. also hinted at the fight via Twitter, telling fans to “Stay tuned The Biggest Fight In Australian Boxing Is Coming Soon.”
Haney (27-0-0, 15 KOs) currently holds the WBC lightweight belt and Kambosos Jr. (20-0-0, 10 KOs) holds the Super WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight belts. So if this bout comes to fruition, it would serve as an undisputed lightweight world championship bout.
