Edson Barboza vs Justin Gaethje targeted for March

Edson Barboza vs Justin Gaethje will finally be a reality.

Ever since Gaethje joined the UFC, fans have wanted to see him take on Barboza. Whenever Gaethje or Barboza step into the Octagon, the fight is penciled in as the fight of the night. Now, putting them together will guarantee fireworks. The fight was first reported by Farah Hannoun on Twitter.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto is reporting the fight is being targeted for the UFC Fight Night on March 30 in Philadelphia.

“Per multiple sources, the UFC is actively discussing a fight between Edson Barboza and Justin Gaethje for UFC Fight Night on March 30 in Philadelphia. Not a done deal yet, but discussions ongoing,” Okamoto tweeted.

Barboza was last seen in the Octagon on the final FOX card in which he defeated Dan Hooker by knockout in the third round. The Brazilian put on a masterful performance of strikes going back and forth between the body and head. In the end, Barboza showed why is a top-ten lightweight and will have another tough fight in Gaethje.

Gaethje, meanwhile, was last seen in the Octagon way back in August. He was originally set to take on Al Iaquinta before Iaquinta had to pull out and James Vick stepped in. Gaethje was looking to get back into the win column after dropping two in a row to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, in what was arguably the fight of the year.

Ultimately, Gatehje did exactly that. He defeated Vick in the first round by knockout and showed the lightweight division he can knock anybody out.

Gaethje vs Barboza will surely deliver and as of right now, it is not expected to be the main event. The UFC is finally making its long-awaited return to Philadelphia and so far, the card is shaping up to be a good one.
