Edson Barboza vs. Shane Burgos targeted for UFC 262

A featherweight matchup between strikers Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos is the latest addition to the upcoming UFC 262 pay-per-view card.

Combate’s Raphael Marinho was the first to report that Barboza vs. Burgos is being targeted to take place at UFC 262. The event is scheduled for May 15 but there is no location or venue confirmed as of yet. Other fights that are set for UFC 262 include Alex Perez vs. Matt Schnell, Andrea Lee vs. Antonina Shevchenko, Katlyn Chookagian vs. Viviane Araujo, and Gina Mazy vs. Priscila Cachoeira.

Barboza (21-9) is the No. 14 ranked featherweight in the UFC. The 35-year-old Brazilian has been a staple of the UFC roster since making his promotional debut back in 2010. But after competing in the lightweight division for his first 10 years in the organization, he moved down to 145lbs for the first time in 2020, losing a controversial split decision to Dan Ige. Barboza was able to bounce back with a unanimous decision win over Makwan Amirkhani in his last fight to snap a three-fight losing skid. The veteran recently signed a new contract with the world’s leading MMA promotion and he figures to be a staple of the UFC featherweight division for hopefully many more years to come.

Burgos (13-2) is the No. 12 ranked featherweight in the UFC. The 29-year-old American made his promotional debut in 2016 and has a 6-2 overall record in the UFC, with notable wins over the likes of Cub Swanson and Charles Rosa. Burgos is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Josh Emmett in his last fight in what was a “Fight of the Year” contender for 2020. He will look to continue moving up the ladder with a win over Barboza in what should be another firefight between two strikers.

Who do you think takes this featherweight firefight at UFC 262 between Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos?
