Eduard Folayang interested in Muay Thai bout against Sage Northcutt
Fresh off his victory over John Wayne Parr at ONE Championship’s mega “ONE X” fight card on Saturday, Eduard Folayang already has a future opponent in mind.
Speaking with media post-fight, it appears as if Folayang is interested in testing his skills against former UFC fighter turned ONE competitor, Sage Northcutt.
“I still have a purpose in mixed martial arts but if they want karate versus wushu, probably Sage Northcutt. He is a karate guy and I am a wushu guy probably we can fight in Muay Thai rules,” the former champion in Folayang said.
Folayang dropped his last four bouts in mixed martial arts before landing the unanimous decision victory over Parr on Saturday. That bout was contested under Muay Thai rules, possibly an indication that Folayang will continue to compete outside of MMA.
“I have been with a lot of Muay Thai guys. I took a lot of advice from different people especially my coach and other athletes. For me it’s just normal, the striking department is just about the rules and how to use my elbows and knees,” said Folayang.
Northcutt has not competed since May 2019, his debut with ONE Championship, which ended up being a first-round knockout loss to Cosmo Alexandre. “Super” Sage was booked to later compete against Shinya Aoki but the bout was canceled after Northcutt tested positive for COVID-19.
“I am looking forward [to fighting Sage Northcutt],” Folayang said. “First I need to recover, assess myself, go with my team, and soon probably in the middle of this year or the third quarter I can come back again.”
