Eric Chase looks to remain undefeated against Nate Maul at Maverick 16

302 BJJ welterweight, Eric Chase makes the walk to the cage once again on March 28th at Maverick 16 in Allentown, Pennsylvania where he will look to remain undefeated. In his way on the evening will be the more experienced fighter, Nate Maul.

Still relatively new to the sport, Chase was introduced to the world of combat sports and “fell in love with it immediately and it just went off from there”, Chase recollects. Starting with a strong base in BJJ, his head coach, Steve McCabe wanted Chase to get a feel for competing primarily in a kickboxing bout to test the waters before making the transition into MMA. Although, Chase didn’t get the result he was after, he definitively proved he can stand and bang, or utilize his reach and technique to his advantage.

The groundwork was laid, and the training was fused seamlessly, as Chase made his MMA debut last October. It only lasted a matter of moments with Chase winning via first round triangle choke and making him 1-0. Next up, Nate Maul at Maverick 16.

“He’s had his first fight before I started training.” Chase says with a grin. Following with the feeling of stepping up against more experienced fighters thus far in his young career.

“It’s a weird feeling because it excites me almost,” Chase admits. “If I feel like I’m going up against an opponent who’s not game, I lose a little bit of that excitement from it.” Continuing with, “So, I love it man! I love it when I get in there against a guy who’s got experience because I know I’ve got to be sharp! Because if I make a mistake, it could be over with the experience that they bring.”

Getting into the particulars of the bout with Maul, Chase isn’t short on confidence when it comes to being well versed and his capability to adapt. Saying, “Being able to strike, being able to grapple, being able to wrestle…With that comes the ability to go in there and just play my game! Just go in there and not have to force whatever I’m doing.” Boldly following with, “thats where my head’s at! That I can go in there and I’m able to do whatever I need to do to get that win.”

With fight night approaching in a matter of weeks, Chase is all smiles when he ponders the outcome of the night. Saying, “I don’t like predictions too much man because I have 15 to 20 predictions in my head. Both of my other fights man, I don’t have one technique that I’m like ‘oh man I’m going to get him with this.’..I have twenty techniques!” Closing with, “go in there with a bunch of different angles and one of them gets through!”
