Fakhreddine vs Maalem Light Heavyweight World Title Fight Ruled No Contest following FIGMMA review

The BRAVE Combat Federation Light Heavyweight world title is vacant once again, less than a month after being handed over to Mohamed Said Maalem at BRAVE CF 52 on August 1st, in Milan, Italy. That’s because the title fight between Maalem and Mohammed Fakhreddine was reviewed by the FIGMMA, the Italian Federation of Grappling and Mixed Martial Arts, and ruled a No Contest.

The decision came after a formal complaint filed by Fakhreddine and his team alleging that Maalem landed multiple illegal strikes to the back of the head during the process that culminated in a technical knockout.

The official statement says that “following a thorough investigation and analysis, the Italian Federation of Grappling and Mixed Martial Arts deemed that the illegal strikes to the back of the head by Mohamed Said Maalem in the final sequence of the fight, contributed to the stoppage of the match”.

Below is the full statement from the Brave CF website:

“Mohamed Said Maalem’s win and subsequent capture of the Light Heavyweight Title was officially appealed by Mohammad Fakhreddine’s team on August 15th regarding the actions which took place during the vacant title fight which took place on August 1st at BRAVE CF 52 in Milan, Italy.

“Following a thorough investigation and analysis, the Italian Federation of Grappling and Mixed Martial Arts deemed that the illegal strikes to the back of the head by Mohamed Said Maalem in the final sequence of the fight, contributed to the stoppage of the match.

“As a result, FIGMMA came to the conclusion that the results of the Light Heavyweight title fight between Mohamed Said Maalem and Mohammed Fakhreddine will be changed to a No Contest, meaning the world title will remain VACANT.”

With the overturn of the result, Fakhreddine’s record was updated to 14 wins, 4 losses and 2 No Contests. Mohamed Said Maalem’s one is now 11 wins, 2 losses, and 1 No Contest.

BRAVE CF officials haven’t confirmed yet what’s the next step for the Light Heavyweight division, nor to both Fakhreddine and Said Maalem, but the natural course of action is that they face each other once again inside the BRAVE CF Arena in an upcoming event.
