Fedor Emelianenko vs Chael Sonnen booked for Long Island
Bellator MMA has finally set their semi-final fights for their Heavyweight Grand Prix and the fights will happen on back-to-back nights. First reported by Mark La Monica of Newsday, Bellator has scheduled Fedor Emelianenko vs Chael Sonnen to fight at the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum on October 13.
The scheduled fight between Emelianenko and Sonnen will come one day after Bellator 207 where the other half of the Heavyweight Grand Prix will take place as Ryan Bader will meet Matt Mitrione at Mohegan Sun in Ucasville, Connecticut. The winners of each fight will then go on to face each other to determine Bellator’s heavyweight champion.
Emelianenko last defeated Frank Mir with a 48-second knockout in a wild fight that took place at Bellator 198 this past April while Sonnen defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in his opening round fight of the tournament. Sonnen is currently riding a two-fight win streak after wins over Jackson and Wanderlei Silva with both wins coming by way of decision.
The fight card will be the first Bellator appearance in Long Island, New York and the Heavyweight Grand Prix fina is expected to take place in early 2019 following this semi-final weekend.
