Fight League Atlantic: Shawn Wallace – Journey to FLA 1 Main Event
Fight League Atlantic is Canada’s newest Mixed Martial Arts promotion. The company’s mission is to be the premier platform that showcases the great MMA talents of Canada in exciting matches for a worldwide viewing audience. FLA 1 is just around the corner, which will air on February 8, live from Truro, Nova Scotia. The FLA 1 card will feature amateur and professional MMA bouts. Coming into the co-main event of the show, making his promotional debut under the FLA banner is a long time fight vet looking to finally getting his big break, 8-2, Shawn Wallace.
An inspirational source always sparks the birth of a fighter. Growing up in Pointe-du-Chêne, New Brunswick, Canada, Wallace’s discovery of Mixed Martial Arts would be from a viewing tape of” The Ultimate Fighter 2″ show. Watching the talented combatants on “TUF”, intrigued and interest began to flood the head of the curious Canadian. That curiosity would lead Wallace to pursue a journey in combat sports. The decision would prove to be a life-altering journey.
Wallace began his MMA career in 2009. Wallace has fought all over throughout the Canadian region, ascending the ranks and building the reputation of a well-rounded dangerous competitor. However, every fighter wants to grow and aspires to break the “glass ceiling” of opportunities. The scarcity in fight promotions in Canada left minimal options for Wallace to continue to build his name. Wallace began to ponder, “How will I be able to showcase my talent to the world?”
“It was very difficult to find opponents, “Wallace told MYMMANEWS. “There was only one other active promotion in the area, and they were not always interested in bringing in fighters for me to compete against. I would take the fights that came my way, even though they were not the best matchups. I would also be sidelined for long stretches.”
2019 would spark a breakthrough in Canada that would answer the cry of many athletes and fight fans. The new East Canada promotion, Fight League Atlantic brings a beneficial service to Canada MMA. FLA’s presence can support the career of Shawn Wallace.
“It is exciting to have a new promotion in the area, as it will elevate MMA in Eastern Canada. More promotions mean more shows, more shows mean more fighters.”
The company is composing a line-up of amateur and professional fighters for the upcoming FLA 1 event. The years of hard work looks to have paved off, as FLA has handpicked Wallace to compete in the main event of their first show.
“I’m happy to be the main event of their 1st show, a lot of eyes will be on the event, and that’s good exposure for me. This historical first show, I want people to look back at the event and see that I was the headliner.”
Wallace’s opponent at the FLA show will be another Canadian veteran competitor, 4-4, Ryan Rohovich. The importance of this match is very crucial for the career of Shawn Wallace. Wallace is currently training rigorously with his team at Wulfrun MMA, has he hopes to utilize his boxing and submission wrestling to dominate Rohovich to secure victory in the main event.
“A victory will help me be one step closer to my ultimate goal. Every training camp I have been getting better and it’s preparing me for bigger opportunities. As for the company, exciting fights from me will grow the FLA fan base and will benefit both of us in the long run.”
