Former NFL star Shawne Merriman launches MMA company
Former NFL player Shawne Merriman has announced that he is entering the world of mixed martial arts promotion. The 6’4″, 265 lb. linebacker is now a co-owner of California based promotion previously known as CFXMMA and will launch it under the new Lights Out Xtreme Fighting brand.
Merriman made the announcement earlier today by way of social media.
“ I’m excited to announce @lightsoutxf formally known as CFXMMA debuting in May on @FOXSportswest and Primeticket. I think everybody knows my love and passion for combat sports so this was a long time coming. About a year ago and a half ago I saw a great local promotion here in Los Angeles that I started to attend every event which had the potential to do great things so instantly I knew exactly what I wanted to do. We plan on bringing nothing but the best action packed fights and entertainment. Tickets are on sale now at LightsoutXF.com. Let’s get it going 👊🏽👊🏽 #mma #combatsports #fighting #foxsports
Merriman is no stranger to combat sports and states that he may even compete under his banner if the opponent is right. Last year the football star signed to compete for World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation but pulled out after the terms of the contract began to change.
Lights Out Xtreme Fighting 1 will be held on May 11 in Burbank.
