Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni arrested for alleged murder of girlfriend in Mexico

Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni, 46, has reportedly been arrested for the alleged murder of his girlfriend in a San Pancho, Mexico hotel over the weekend.

The article, from Mexican news outlet Tribuna de la Bahía, states that local police found a woman deceased inside the couple’s hotel room on Sunday after Baroni approached officers outside and told them his girlfriend was unresponsive.

Police found a naked woman on a bed covered by a bed sheet. Upon further inspection the law enforcement officials found her to have injuries consistent with punches, bruises on her face, and body. She had no vital signs.

Baroni was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the incident.

Photos have appeared on social media of what appears to be Baroni speaking with police.

Another report from Cage Side Press reporter Eddie Law states that, “when interviewed by police Baroni told them that around 3pm, while smoking marijuana and drinking beer, his girlfriend revealed to him that she had cheated on him with another man. The woman, identified only as Paola, 46, refused to shower when Baroni demanded she do so.

“He then allegedly threw her into the shower where she fell and hit her head. Baroni said he helped her back to her feet and to the bed where she asked for a bed sheet because she was cold. She then asked him for cigarettes and beer which he got for her.

“When he returned, he laid down in bed with her and that’s when he realized she was unconscious. He allegedly attempted to wake her up, but realized she had no vital signs.”

Baroni was arrested by the State Tourist Police and is being held by the Municipal Court of Valle De Banderas.

Baroni, who fought under the nickname “The New York Badass” has a pro MMA record of 16-19. His first UFC bout came at UFC 30 in 2001. He had two runs with promotion and also fought for Strikeforce, Pride, ONE FC, and others to include boxing and bare knuckle bouts.

Earlier in 2022, Baroni was wanted in connection with crimes in his home state of New York. It appears that he then moved to Mexico.
