No reason to doubt Frankie Edgar's quick turnaround

Frankie Edgar interested in fighting Cory Sandhagen next, according to manager

Frankie Edgar has his eyes set on Cory Sandhagen as his next opponent.

Following Sandhagen’s second-round TKO win over Marlon Moraes on Fight Island, the former lightweight champion has taken notice and is interested in the fight. Edgar, of course, had a successful bantamweight debut in August and is likely a win away from a title shot.

Per his manager Ali Abdelaziz (@AliAbdelaziz00), Frankie Edgar (@FrankieEdgar) has asked the UFC to fight Cory Sandhagen (@cors_life) next. Nos. 2 and 5 in the division. Sandhagen, coming off that big Moraes TKO, hasn’t really discussed his next move with UFC yet, I’m told.

Frankie Edgar returned to the win column in August with a split decision win over Pedro Munhoz. It marked his long-awaited bantamweight debut. Before that, he lost back-to-back fights at featherweight to Korean Zombie and Max Holloway for the title. Currently, Edgar is ranked fifth in the bantamweight division and is always in contention for a title shot given his name in the sport.

Cory Sandhagen, meanwhile, returned to the win column two weeks ago with a highlight-reel knockout win over Marlon Moraes. Before that, he suffered his first loss in the UFC as he was submitted by Aljamain Sterling in a No. 1 contender fight in June.

Edgar and Sandhagen were supposed to fight back at UFC Raleigh in January. However, “The Answer” took the short notice fight against Zombie on short notice and that fight fell through. Now, after both men picked up big wins it certainly makes sense. The winner of the fight would likely get the next bantamweight title shot and it is a fight that could easily headline a Fight Night card or be a welcomed addition for a pay-per-view card.

Given Sandhagen just fought, perhaps we won’t see it until 2021 but it is a fight that does make sense and should happen.
