UFC Fight Island 5 weigh-in results - Moraes vs. Sandhagen

Marlon Moraes believes Cory Sandhagen stoppage was ‘a little early’

Marlon Moraes isn’t too thrilled with the ref stopping his fight against Cory Sandhagen when he did.

In the second round, Sandhagen landed a beautiful spinning heel kick that dropped the Brazilian. Sandhagen then followed it up with some ground and pound and the ref quickly jumped in to stop the fight. Yet, for Moraes, he believes he was still aware and fighting back.

“I thought we had a very good first round. But I thought I won the round,” Moraes said during the UFC post-fight show. “And then he started the second and I don’t know, I think he kind of catch me with a kick and bloodied my eye a little bit and right after he surprised me. He didn’t come this way, he came the other way and that’s it.

“Probably a little early stoppage but whatever. I thought I was [OK to continue] but the ref just jumped on me. I didn’t have time enough to get up.”

For Marlon Moraes, he says he just got caught which happens in the sport. He knows he is still one of the best bantamweights in the world and will be back. For the Brazilian, he hopes to fight again in December and get back into the win column and start his climb up to another title shot.

“I just want to go home and get another fight,” Moraes said. “I want to be busy. That’s a long time no fights. Hopefully, I can get another one by December.”

Moraes still is a top-five bantamweight in the UFC and has plenty of options for his next fight. For now, he will be heading back home to heal up and look to get another fight in again soon. Although he wants December, that is fairly quick after being knocked out, so perhaps we won’t see Moraes again until the new year.
