Gervonta Davis and Leo Santa Cruz Set For October 31st
Gervonta Davis and Leo Santa Cruz are set to face off in a lightweight boxing unification match with the belts in two weight classes being put on the line. The fight will Take place on October 31st on Showtime pay per view and will be presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
Gervonta Davis is the WBA World Lightweight champion and puts his belt and perfect record of 23-0 (22 knockouts) on the line on Halloween night. He won the vacant title from Yuriokis Gamboa last December before being sidelined by the pandemic. In addition to Gamboa, Davis has wins over Jose Pedraza and Liam Walsh. Davis has taken some backlash for not taking tougher fights and being padded by Mayweather Promotions. Santa Cruz marks a big step up in talent for Davis.
Leo Santa Cruz is stepping up from super featherweight, putting his WBA Super World Featherweight title on the line against the hard hitting Davis. Santa Cruz is 37-1 with 19 knockouts. He’s much more experienced than Davis and his only loss comes against the very talented Carl Frampton in 2016 and then rematched and defeated Frampton via majority decision. Santa Cruz has won five straight since that fight. The other good name on Santa Cruz’s record are Abner Mares.
