UFC Fight Night 209

Christos Giagos vs Benoit Saint-Denis added to UFC Fight Night 209

UFC Fight Night 209 is coming along quite nicely, as the UFC continues adding exciting bouts to the card.

UFC Fight Night 209 is to go down on September 3, 2022, live from the Accor Arena in Paris, France.

Headlining the event is a clash of heavyweight contenders in no. 1 ranked former interim champion Ciryl Gane and no. 3 ranked Tai Tuivasa, and it is to be co-headlined by another former champion, this one no. 1 ranked Robert Whittaker, who faces no. 3 ranked Marvin Vettori at 185 lbs.

Another exciting bout that’s recently been added to the card comes in the lightweight division between Christos Giagos and Benoit Saint-Denis.

This is a very exciting contest, just given the performances these two have had thus far into their UFC careers.

Christos Giagos has gone 4-4 since joining the worlds leading mixed martial arts promotion, while Benoit Saint-Denis has gone 1-1.

Saint-Denis’ promotional debut was one to remember, where he endured one of the worst beatings we’ll ever see in the sport, up at 170 lbs nonetheless against a talented veteran in Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos.

That fight should have been stopped at so many different points throughout it, but Saint-Denis was able to stay in there and keep going until the final bell.

Hearing the commentators speak about his military service, and how he went through torture training during his time there, it makes sense, because we saw he can take an absurd amount of damage without giving up.

Following Saint-Denis’ first defeat in his promotional debut, he’d improve his record to 9-1 with a dominant victory over Niklas Stolze in his next bout last month in June, submitting the German talent with a rear naked choke at 1:32 of the second round.

Giagos on the other hand is coming into this fight on a two-fight losing skid, though he lost to Arman Tsarukyan and Thiago Moises in those fights. He also lost his UFC debut to Charles Oliveira, so really, he’s only lost to some of the very best in the sport since his arrival.

Who do you see coming out on top of this lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night 209?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
