Gilbert Burns in against Gunnar Nelson after Thiago Alves withdraws

Submission expert Gilbert Burns has agreed to fight Gunnar Nelson at UFC on ESPN+ 18 on September 28, according to a report from Raphael Marinho of Combate.

Nelson, 17-4-1, was originally scheduled to fight former welterweight title contender Thiago Alves, but Alves had to withdraw from the contest due to injury.  Nelson is coming off a split decision loss to Leon Edwards in March.

Burns, 16-3, enters the fight on a three fight win streak including decisions over Alexey Kunchenko and Olivier Aubin-Mercier, and a submission victory over Mike Davis.

UFC on ESPN+ 18 takes place at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark and is headlined by a middleweight fight between Jack Hermansson and Jared Cannonier.
