Gilbert Burns matches brother, submits Davis with rear-naked choke

In a battle of Florida-based fighters, Gilbert Burns was able to put Mike “Beast Boy” Davis on his back and submit him with a rear-naked choke at 4:15 of the second round in a prelim fight of UFC on ESPN+: Jacare vs Hermansson at the BT&T Center in Sunrise, Florida.

“Durinho” Burns and Davis came out fast and furious, landing big punches and kicks on each other throughout the first round. Following the script laid out by his brother, Herbert, (the night before at Titan FC the younger Burns brother also won by a rear-naked choke) Burns got a takedown and had the back but Davis escaped.

Midway through round one, Davis landed a heavy body kick that Burns countered with a thunderous leg kick of his own. Burns then followed with a double-jab, cross combination that rocked Davis. Burns would get a second takedown late in the round and finish in sidemount landing punches and elbows as the bell sounded.

Burns scored a trip takedown early in the second round and once again worked for the choke. Davis fought off the submission attempt for nearly three minutes but eventually the black belt Burns sunk in the rear-naked choke and got the tap out for the victory.
