Gillian Robertson – “I want to show people, I want to be a complete mixed martial artist”
Gillian Robertson has more submission wins than every female fighter to ever compete inside the UFC octagon. The 28-year-old Canadian now fighting out of Florida has submitted six opponents with the promotion (not including her time on the Ultimate Fighter).
“The Savage” returns at UFC 297 on January 20 when she meets Polyana Viana in a strawweight contest. While snatching necks and snapping limbs are her game, Robertson is looking to cement her legacy in the sport and prove that she is more than just a submission artist.
“I want to show people, I want to be a complete mixed martial artist,” Robertson said while speaking with Jay Anderson of Cageside Press. “Ideally I would love to finish the fight on the feet one day, I don’t think I’ve really developed the correct mechanics to be able to do so at this point. But it’s like, I want that girl to be scared of me no matter where we are. If we’re on the feet, if I’m on top of you, if I’m under— if I’m in guard, it doesn’t matter, I want you to be scared. So that’s my ideal goal.”
UFC 297 goes down at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Watch it live on pay-per-view.
