Glover Teixeira vs. Thiago Santos postponed to Oct. 3 after Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19
A light-heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santo is being postponed after Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19.
First reported by Combate, the bout is being pushed to Oct. 3 after originally being slated to headline Originally slated as the UFC on ESPN+ 35 on Sept. 12.
Glover Teixeira is currently on a four-fight win streak. The 40-year-old most recently finished Anthony Smith via fifth-round TKO at UFC on ESPN+ 29 on May 13. He also defeated Nikita Krylov, Ion Cutelaba and Karl Roberson.
It’s been over a year since Santos last competed inside the octagon. Santos required surgery after tearing ligaments in both of his knees during a split-decision loss to former champion Jon Jones at UFC 239 in July 2019.
Santos came into the title fight with four-consecutive wins against Jan Blachowicz, Jimi Manuwa, Eryk Anders and Kevin Holland.
A women’s bantamweight matchup between Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana is currently slated to headline the Oct. 3 event. There is no information on who is the new main event for UFC on ESPN+ 35. The Oct. 3 event is expected to take place on “Fight Island,” Yas island, Abu Dhabi.
