Hector Lombard vs Rory MacDonald set for UFC 186
Well even though he was promised a title shot last year, Rory MacDonald will once again have to eliminate another UFC welterweight title contender as he draws Hector Lombard for his next bout.
MacDonald was to face the winner of the second bout between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, however when that fight went to the judges’ scorecards for a second time, this time with a different outcome than the first, a rubber match was set to finalize the trilogy between the two. With that announcement came more time for MacDonald to just sit on the shelf and wait, but being the fighter that he is, he allowed the UFC to match him up with the always dangerous Lombard.
The winner of this April 25th bout in Motreal, Quebec, Canada will most certainly get a title shot.
Lombard (35-4, 1 NC) is 3-0 as a welterweight in the UFC and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Josh Burkman at UFC 182 on January 3.
UFC 186 will mark the promotion’s return to Montreal for the first time since UFC 185 in March 2013. No other fights have been announced for the card but with the bout being in Canada it is possible that the MacDonald fight will be the night’s main event.
