Henry Cejudo tears shoulder, out of UFC 292 clash with Marlon Vera

Former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo has withdrawn from his upcoming clash with Marlon Vera at UFC 292.

UFC 292 is to take place on August 19, 2023, and goes down live from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Cejudo recently made the following post to his Twitter account:

“Some important news… Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete on Aug 19 at UFC 292. I have a tear in my right shoulder that requires rehab. I wish I could’ve got in there w/ Chito, but I won’t be able to make a full recovery in time.”

The former champion returned to the octagon for the first time in three years last month at UFC 288 to challenge current UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling for the title he himself vacated those three years ago, losing a disputed split decision.

Cejudo was attempting to remain active upon return, booking this match up with no. 6 ranked Marlon Vera just over three months later, but it appears we’ll have to wait and see what his future in fighting holds. At 36 years of age and fighting in the bantamweight division, this is a tough one for any Cejudo fan to swallow.

It is unclear at this point whether or not Vera will remain on the card.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
