Hugo Cunha steps in against Bucheha at ONE 157

Hugo Cunha (6-1) will step in against Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida (2-0) at ONE Championship‘s ONE 157 on Friday, May 20.

Buchecha was originally slated to meet Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane in a heavyweight bout, but that fight was cancelled after Kane suffered a knee injury.

Buchecha,” a 13-time BJJ World Champion, an extremely well-rounded grappler with a nasty arm bar. But, he’s won matches via Ezekiel, triangle, heel hook, bow and arrow, brabo, and many other ways.

Buchecha is very talented in the no-gi discipline as well. In 2010, he defeated Gilbert Burns at the No Gi Worlds as well. It’s his success in no-gi has had many feel optimistic on the Brazilian’s success on transitioning mixed martial arts.

After suffering his first career loss – a split decision to Dustin Joynson in his ONE debut – this past February, “Silverback” Cunha who is a submissions specialist just like Buchecha, wants to get back into the win column.

Cunha made his pro MMA debut late in 2017 and went on to securing six consecutive finishes before the loss to Joynson.

“Silverback” poses as a legit threat to placing that first blemish on Bucheha’s fight record.  Whether the opportunity comes on the feet or on the ground, Cunha will look to finish the fight early if he can.
