Hunter May talks vicious knockout win at Maverick MMA 22

Hunter May can add a knockout to the highlight reel.  Video interview above.

Recently, at Maverick MMA 22, May fought in his third amateur fight against Denis Hickey.

Coming into the fight, May thought Hickey would start out fast, but that didn’t happen right away.

In the opening round, things were mostly playing out like it was going to be a very technical kickboxing fight. However, later in the first round, the two would briefly end up in the clinch and May could tell he had the strength advantage and he went into his corner feeling confident.

That confidence paid off as the fight out only last 59 more seconds.

In the second round, May was waiting for Hickey to step straight forward and as soon as he did, May landed a straight right hand that sent Hickey right to the canvas and the referee waved off the fight immediately.

The win was huge for May and now he’s expecting some bigger things on the horizon.

Maverick MMA will return to action on June 10 and the promotion announced that they will be returning to the Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, Pa. for that show.

With another big night of fights expected to held at the event, the promotion has already contacted May with an exciting offer. However, May knows he just fought and there is still work to put in at Scranton MMA so he’ll make a decision on what’s next soon.

In the meantime, May is already back in the gym and continuing his growth as fighter as he is chasing down his short term goal of being one of the top five amateur welterweight fighters in the state of Pennsylvania.

Following his knockout win, May once again joined MyMMANews to discuss his win, what’s next for him and what it was like meeting former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira, who was at Maverick MMA 22 to corner one of his fighters.

You can watch May’s full interview in the video above.
