Ian Machado Garry off Saturday’s UFC 296 card
In a weird turn of events, Ian Machado Garry is off Saturday’s UFC 296 fight card in Las Vegas, just days after suggesting that he feared for his family’s safety.
Garry and his wife have been on the receiving end of insulting comments after rumors began circulating about her relationship with him. UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland ignited a fire into the social media campaign against the couple, escalating it to the point where Garry hinted that he did not feel safe traveling to the U.S.
Then today Garry missed UFC 296 media day obligations and things really took off. The number 14-ranked Garry was supposed to meet number 13-ranked Vincente Luque at the T-Mobile Arena, but has fallen ill.
UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the news of Garry’s removal from this weekend’s event on Wednesday after Chael Sonnen initially reported the news.
“Ian Garry started with the flu that turned into pneumonia,” White said on Twitter. “So that fight is off and is not happening. It is true.”
