Interim Lightweight Title Fight Added to UFC 236 – Holloway vs. Poirier

Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier and UFC Featherweight Champion Max “Blessed” Holloway will battle for the second time, this go around has n interim lightweight belt up for grabs.

This story was first reported by ESPN. The newly booked rematch will be the  main event of UFC 236 on April 13, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Their first meeting was Holloway’s octagon debut, on short notice, back at UFC 143. Poirier would win that encounter by submission from a triangle/armbar combination.

Poirier a Louisiana native, is unbeaten in his last five fights. “The Diamond” has scored finishes in his last three fights, defeating Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, and Eddie Alvarez.

Holloway is on a 13-fight win streak. “Blessed” successfully defended his title for the second time at UFC 231. The Hawaiian put on a striking clinic, scoring the TKO win, when Brian Ortega didn’t answer the bell for the beginning of the fifth round.

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently serving a suspension for his involvement in the brawl that broke out after the main event of UFC 229.

UFC 236 already has an interim Middleweight title bout. Kelvin Gastelum fighting Israel Adesanya, because Champion Robert Whittaker is on the mend after hernia surgery.
