INTERVIEW: Jessica Eye ready to shed underdog title once and for all at UFC 238

Jessica Eye checks in with MyMMANews just 48 hours away from her opportunity to fight for the UFC women’s flyweight title this Saturday. Eye will challenge Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event of UFC 238, which emanates from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

“Evil” talks about how fight week has been so far, the stories that have come out this week about her — and from her point of view — discussing some of the trials and tribulations she has gone through getting to this point, losing a year in the Octagon due to three cancelled fights, what this title fight means to her, how she is expecting the unexpected against Valentina Shevchenko, how this fight isn’t just for her — but also everyone in her life since day one — why it’s more than just a title fight, visualizing what it will feel like for Dana White to wrap the belt around her waist, her message to her fans, old and new, and even the doubters, and much more.

When it comes to Saturday night, it’s a night Jessica Eye has been waiting for her entire career.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen in that cage. I never do,” Eye said. “Nobody ever does. I just hypothetically plan for every situation. I’ve been waiting for this. My friend’s who have been here since day one (have been waiting for this). Even my friend braiding my hair right now has been waiting for this. She’s been with me for years, traveling the world, braiding my hair and this isn’t just for me, it’s for all of us. We’ve all been taking this journey.

“My friend’s son is here and one day we’re going to be able to say, ‘hey, you went to a UFC fight. Jessica won the world title.’ These are fun memories when I’m done fighting that we can talk about when I’m sitting at my friend’s house drinking coffee and not having to go to practice.”
