Invicta FC 15

Invicta FC 15 took place at the Hangar in Costa Mesa, California and both the Invicta FC featherweight and strawweight championships were up for grabs.

In the main event, Russian submission artist Daria Ibragimova tangled with knockout artist and Invicta FC featherweight queen Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino.  Ibragimova did something no other competitor did, pushing the champion to the cage and holding on for a takedown, however Cyborg kept peppering her with shots and bruised the challenger badly.  There was a moment where Cyborg grabbed her foot and it later revealed that her toenail ripped in half and bloodied, but despite the injury the champion finished the challenger via strikes inside the first round to retain her belt.

In the co-main event, newly crowned Invicta FC strawweight champ Livia Renata Souza aimed to use her renowned grappling skills against the undefeated DeAnna Bennett. It was her striking however that proved dominant in an early first round TKO win, retaining her championship and hbanding Bennett her first defeat.

The entire Invicta FC 15 fight card streamed exclusively on the subscription service, UFC Fight Pass.

There was controversy in the first round of Lacey Schuckman vs. Mizuki Inoue, as it appeared that Inoue may have tapped from a submission but the fight was not stopped.  Schuckman would shout to her corner that her opponent tapped, yet the fight continued.  After the bell of the first round, Schuckman threw a punch and was warned by referee Jason Herzog.  The second round was all Inoue via ground and pound and a few armbar submission attempts, and then again in the final round which is where the fight ended in favor of Mizuki Inoue via armbar.

Angela Hill got her first win since leaving the UFC, defeating Alida Gray via KO in the very first round.  Impressive win for Overkill.

In the opening bout, Australia’s Megan Anderson defeated Amber Leibrock via strikes in the third round.  The two ladies threw everything they had at one another, putting on an exciting opening bout.
