Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski II – Preview and Prediction

Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski will run it back at UFC 294 as the two will meet for the second time this year.

Back at UFC 284 in February, the two men but on a back-and-forth war and now fans are super excited to see the rematch between the two reigning champions.

This fight comes on days notice for Volkanovski as he replaces Charles Oliveira, who was forced to withdraw from the fight after suffering a bad cut above his eye in training.

Here’s a preview and prediction of the UFC 294 main event, which can also be seen in the video below.

Breakdown

The last time these two fought, everyone thought in Volkanovski could stuff takedowns, he’d win a boxing match, but that didn’t happen.

He did stuff takedowns, but Makhachev was able to show off his striking skills and edge out Volkanovski on the scorecards to retain his title.

Since then, Volkanovski defended his featherweight title with ease at UFC 290, but this will be Makhachev’s first fight since then.

Tale of the Tape

Makhachev will be the bigger fighter, but Volkanovski actually has a one inch reach advantage. Tale of the Tape doesn’t really matter in a Volkanovski fight as he’s typical the shorter fighter and has no problems over coming that.

Oddsmakers

They see it going Makhachev’s way. After all he did win their fight a few months ago and Volkanovski is taking this fight on 11 days notice.

Prediction

Is the 11 days notice a good thing or a bad thing for Volkanovski? Guess we’ll find out on Saturday fight.

Volkanovski has the power to get a knockout win. In fact, he had Makhachev hurt a few times in their first fight. That’s his key to victory and he definitely can do it.

Makhachev showed he can strike with Volkanovski and he’s should have the edge with wrestling so it’s hard to bet against him.

Again there’s one big question here. Is the 11 days notice a good thing or a bad thing for Volkanovski?

Prediction: Islam Makhachev defeats Alexander Volkanovski by decision in the UFC 294 main event.
