Israel Adesanya on Du Plessis: “I actually like his story”

Former two-time middleweight champion Israel Adesanya likes what he sees in newly crowned king Dricus Du Plessis. The South African native defeated Sean Strickland via split decision to capture Adesanya’s old throne. Now the eyes are on what Du Plessis does next. “The Last Stylebender” believes it is him.

Israel Adesanya aiming for Dricus Du Plessis title shot

Israel Adesanya took to his YouTube channel to speak on the title fight between his old opponent, Strickland, and Du Plessis. Adesanya said he actually enjoyed the fight and scored it for the new champ.

“The main event, it was nice to watch,” Adesanya Said of the UFC 297 main event. “I thought Dricus, I thought he would use his wrestling more in the middle of the rounds, but he did use it at the end, which was smart of him to steal the rounds. I thought maybe, my ‘guesstimate’ on watching this, 3, 4, 5 he took. Now he is the fourth African champion in UFC history, so congrats to you my African brother Dricus du Plessis.”

The two had beef after Du Plessis knocked out Robert Whittaker. There, the two had a heated exchange in the center of the octagon and fans were looking forward to that matchup.

The City Kickboxing talent says that he is truly happy for Du Plessis but still wants a piece of the champ.

“Legit I’m happy for him, I actually like his story,” Adesanya said. “But he still did what he did and I’m still going to test that ass.”

UFC 300 has been floated for the potential matchup but this is way too early in development. Du Plessis said in his post fight interview that it was a quick turnaround but he’s open to the matchup and date. Likely, it will be pushed beyond UFC 300 due to protocol from Du Plessis’ fight with Sean Strickland, who was quite bruised up.
