Jacen Edwards: Fighting is a family affair
Tune in above to watch the entire interview with Stellar Fights 54 winner, Jacen Edwards.
302 BJJ competitor and heavyweight fighter, Jacen Edwards has come a long way since he started training in MMA years ago. Training under the tutelage of his father, Larry Edwards, who is a BJJ black belt and head coach at 302 BJJ, fighting has become a family affair for the Edwards family.
Now, 2-0 (2 TKO’s) as an amateur heavyweight, Jacen Edwards continues to climb the Stellar Fights rankings in search for gold in the near future.
On January 21st in front of a sold-out Exhibition Hall at the Delaware State Fairgrounds, Edwards would make the second walk of his amateur career at Stellar Fights 54. His opponent for the evening would be undefeated, Conor Quigley, who was coming off of a second round TKO. In what would be a back-and-forth effort that saw both fighters land several clean and damaging punches, Edwards would walk away with the TKO win following an arm injury sustained by Quigley early in the second round.
After the contest concluded, the two fighters shared words in the cage as Quigley was understandably upset with the stoppage. However, Edwards says he was merely offering Quigley his condolences and a friendly offer to “run it back.”
Since the bout, Edwards has been focusing on how he can improve for the next one. “I’ve been just studying myself. Studying all the stuff that I did well and breaking it down piece by piece and just trying to figure out else what I can do to better myself.”
With a bright future ahead of him and time on his side, the twenty-year-old heavyweight is looking to make a return to the cage this summer. With no decisive names on his mind within the Stellar Fights heavyweight roster, Edwards is leaving his options open but openly anticipates his challenges will only get increasingly difficult as he progresses with an undefeated record.
“At the end of the day, we both signed up to do the same shit to each other,” Edwards says.
