Jack Jenkins talks DWCS win; hopes to make UFC debut at UFC 284

Jack Jenkins is now a UFC fighter.

Jenkins made a name for himself in Australia where he would win the featherweight title in Eternal MMA, which one of the bigger promotions in the country and has produced a number of UFC fighters.

After racking up a 9-2 record in his home country, the UFC matchmakers brought him to the United States to compete on Dana White’s Contender Series.

At first Jenkins had a hard getting to America because of visa issues and he ended up landing in Vegas a lot later then he was planning to.

Nonetheless, Jenkins didn’t let any of that bother him and he went into his fight with Freddy Emiliano Linares looking to dominate his opponent and that’s exactly what he did.

In the opening two rounds, Jenkins would land some quick shots before taking Linares down to the canvas. Once Jenkins got Linares down, he would go to work and land several strikes.

In the second round, Jenkins would open a cut over the eye of Linares and Jenkins thought the fight maybe stopped. After the cage side doctor looked at the cut, he determined that Linares could continue.

Given the doctors ruling, the referee made it clear that Linares didn’t show him something, he would stop the fight. Jenkins would make sure that a stoppage was indeed next.

He quickly got Linares on the ground and started teeing off before the fight was waved off.

Jenkins looked great in his fight, but on the UFC’s broadcast, UFC president was critical of Jenkins and referred to him as a “one trick pony.” Despite some criticism, White would go on afterwards to praise Jenkins performance and he gave him a UFC contract.

Following the win, Jenkins spoke with MyMMANews to discuss his victory, White’s comments following the fight and planning to fight at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia.
