Jackson’s MMA Series changes to Southwest MMA Series, announces June event
June 8th will be the beginning of a new era for a promotion that been in the southwest Mixed Martial Arts scene for the last nine years.
This past Saturday (April 13) a countdown clock on Instagram led to the news that the promotion is now the Southwest MMA Series. Continuing in the numerical order as their predecessor June 8th will named Southwest MMA Series 28 and will still take place at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino.
In the headliner, someone’s O has got to go in a battle between unbeaten as Jess Martinez (5-0) collides with Josh Altum (3-0).
Martinez wrestled at the Division III college level, has a BJJ Purple Belt, and held a KOTC amateur title. “The Vanilla Gorilla” will head into his forth main event for the promotion, having won the first two by submission, and escaping with a split decision win this past November.
Altum is a Texas based fighter with sixty-six percent of his wins by submission. Altum used an armbar to defeat Zikica Krsmanovic in his pro debut at XKO 37. Most recently the fighter nicknamed “Superglue” submitted BJ Young by triangle choke at CFFC 71.
Over the last nine years the Jackson’s MMA Series has featured fighters such as UFC vets Buddy Roberts, Henry Martinez, Isaac Vallie-Flagg, Joey Villasenor, Emily Kagan, Anthony Birchak, Augusto Montano, and active UFC fighters Michelle Waterson, Jodie Esquibel, Cortney Casey, Guido Cannetti, Gabriel Benitez, Landon Vannaat, and Jordan Espinosa. Also, must mention WEC vet Frank Gomez, well-traveled Donald Sanchez, and Copa Combate winner Andres “The Bullet” Quintana. Plus, Rickey Esquibel, Josh Moreno, Jordan Titoni, Jerome Rivera, Nick Urso, and Harvey Park, who have all fought for LFA.
