Jairzinho Rozenstruik “confused” and “disappointed” by referee stoppage in Alexander Volkov fight

UFC heavyweight contender Jairzinho Rozenstruik says he’s “confused” and “disappointed” by the referee stoppage in the Alexander Volkov fight.

Rozenstruik and Volkov battled in the main event of UFC Vegas 56 in what was a five-round heavyweight fight between two of the top contenders in the weight class. The two big men stood in the center of the Octagon and traded big shots early on in the fight, but Volkov was able to clip Rozenstruik and hurt him badly up against the fence. Referee Herb Dean then stopped the fight, although Rozenstruik appeared to be getting back up as he stopped it. Some fans and media felt the stoppage was early, while others thought it was just. Ultimately, it was a tough call to make for Dean, because it appeared that Rozenstruik was hurt, but he recovered quickly.

Taking to his social media following the fight, Rozenstruik expressed his dismay with the stoppage. According to “Bigi Boy,” he was fine and he doesn’t believe the fight should have been stopped. As far as Rozenstruik is concerned, Dean made a hasty decision to stop the fight.

(1/2) Hi everyone. I’m kinda confused on how the fight went and I’m disappointed that it was stopped. It definitly was a troubling situation, but I was far from giving up the fight. Did someone lay flat on the ground with his eyes shut? That’s what we call a knockout. #UFCVegas56

(2/2) Alexander and I basically just started exchanging some heavy strikes. The stuff you ‘all wanted to see! Big up to @AlexDragoVolkov for taking the fight. I’ve no noteable damage and I like to fight soon. #UFCVegas56

It will be interesting to see what the UFC does next with Rozenstruik as far as the matchmaking goes after losing back-to-back fights to Volkov and Curtis Blaydes.

Do you agree with referee Herb Dean’s decision to stop the Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Alexander Volkov fight at UFC Vegas 56, or do you believe it was an early stoppage by the referee?
