UFC Charlotte weigh-in results - Rozenstruik vs. Almeida

Jairzinho Rozenstruik issues statement following submission loss to Jailton Almeida

Jairzinho Rozenstruik has opened up on his first-round submission loss to Jailton Almeida.

Rozenstruik was headlining UFC Charlotte on Saturday afternoon on ABC against Alemida in a fight he was a massive underdog in. However, Rozenstruik was confident he would land the big shot and get the KO win. However, Almeida got Rozenstruik down to the ground and eventually got the first-round submission.

Following the loss, Rozenstruik took to social media to issue a statement and thanked his fans for their support.

“What’s up, guys. As you guys see, the fight didn’t go my way. I think one or two mistakes cost me the whole fight. I felt like I was doing everything right, so yeah. Anyway, I’ll be better. I’ll be back better and stronger, and I want to say thank you for supporting me,” Rozenstruik said in the video with the caption reading, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it’s the courage to continue that counts.”

With the loss, Jairzinho Rozenstruik dropped to 13-5 as a pro and is now 2-3 in his last five. Prior to the loss to Almeida, Rozenstruik was coming off a 23-second knockout win over Chris Daukaus to return to the win column after back-to-back losses to Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes. In the UFC, Rozenstruik is 7-5 with notable wins over Junior dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, and Andrei Arlovski among others.

Jailton Almeida, on the other hand, is 19-2 and a perfect 5-0 in the UFC and will now be a top-10 heavyweight following his win over Rozenstruik in the main event of UFC Charlotte on Saturday. In his UFC career, the Brazilian has beaten the likes of Shamil Abdurakhimov, Anton Turkalj, Parker Porter, and Danilo Marques. His win over Rozenstruik was also the first time he headlined a UFC card and he made the most of it.
